It is with great sadness that YMCA CC announce the recent passing of Richard Beamish after a short illness.
'Beamo' was a
fantastic stalwart of the club, who not only played for the 1st XI but also held office as the Club President in 1996/97.

Richard made his 1st XI debut in 1961, going onto play 248 matches before retiring in 1983. A top order batsman he scored 3,814 runs at an average of 16.02 with 1 century and 10 x 50s.
His hundred came in his best season with the willow, 1977, in which he totalled 465 runs for the season at an average of 29.06.
He remained unbeaten on 100* versus Merrion CC at his beloved Claremont Road. Cricket historian Derek Scott recorded that it was a chanceless innings in 185 mins with 7 x 4s.
He was the leading YM batsman in the Leinster cricket averages of that year and was a member of the YMCA team, under the captaincy of his great friend W.Ian Lewis, that shared the Wiggins Teape League as 1977 winners with both Clontarf & Leinster.
The year before he had made 96*. He took 41 career catches, but alas not a single wicket.

“It is with sadness, we learnt of Richard’s passing away. Richard contributed so much to our club in various capacities including, as a tenacious opening bat on the 1st XI and in later years, on the lower teams. Off the field, he looked after the ground for many years and took great pride in the wicket at Claremont Road . He organised the much needed relaying of the square in the late 80s which allowed talented youngsters to develop and provided the most successful years in the club’s history. He also contributed to the club off the field and organised many memorable club dinners. Our thoughts are with his family.”
