There is a young fellow down at Rathmines making a name for himself, goes by the name of George Dockrell. Well at YM with have a player, who although he is no 'spring chicken' is also named Dockrell and we all know who Derek is!
In this game versus Leinster 5ths, Derek Dockrell scored a patient 106(17x4s, 1x6) littered with boundaries (to go with the 50 he scored the day before against North County) after coming in at No.3 and being the 9th wicket to fall as YM posted a competitive target of 226/10. Aided by contributions from Niall Noonan (21), Johan Van DeFlier (24) and a fine 32(4x4s, 1x6) by David.J.Rice he would have been confident that this total should have been enough for the 3rds to record their second win of the weekend.
The reason it wasn't was that several catches were put down, notably the Leinster opener Nazir (81), who survived the first of many chances when he had scored 20. The YM bowlers tried hard but the fielding was far from good as Leinster reached the target in the 43rd over. Benn Hoey (2/33) again bowled well for the second day running.
A lost opportunity indeed but for this week alone Derek, 'George's old man' will have the bragging rights in the Dockrell home!
