Match report YMCA 2nd XI v Oakhill 1st XI
At Claremont Road.
Leinster Division 4 League

Debuts: Owais Ahad Qureshi & Wajih Iqbal.

YM won the toss and decided to bat first on a wicket that had been used the previous day. The openers soon found Yogesh too hot to handle and were dismissed early, 17/2. Shami came in, hit two beautiful off side drives and then ran himself out going for a second. Although the run rate was pretty healthy at 3.75 an over wickets fell at an alarming rate. Only Kamal Merchant with a fluent 23 should any application to build an innings. With Warwick Armstrong he put on 39 for the 7th wicket but that was it. The last 4 wickets fell for 0 runs and YM had only batted for 31.2 overs.
This gave Oakhill 68 overs to score the runs!
YMs bowlers started brightly taking 2 wickets for 15 runs as Armstrong and Umar Jehangir bowled sharply. Yogesh gave some half chances, which were not taken but 3 more wickets were taken at the other end reducing the visitors to 75/5. Merchant was bowling tightly and a couple of close shouts for lbw might have made inroads into Oakhill's tail but it was not to be as 41 runs were recorded for the 6th wicket. The YM fielding and bowling was pretty good and on other days would have been rewarded more but it still could not stop Oakhill from winning by 5 wickets as Yogesh scored a crucial 61* for his side.
The batting is still a concern as too many batsmen do not show the necessary concentration and application to build match winning innings or at least bat the overs. This seems to be a trend throughout the club...
