The sad death of John D.Ridgeway...

26 Nov 2013

John D.Ridgeway
1940-2013

Ridge was one of the select few who has played, Captained the 1st XI and been President of the Club.
His career in senior cricket spanned from 1957 to 1992, a marvellous record of 35 years and 442 matches.
He was a member of the YMCA team(s) that won the 1965 Senior League, the 1977 Wiggins Teape League and the 1984 Senior Cup.
His Interprovincial career with South Leinster ran from 1967 to 1974.

In many ways Ridge, along with another legend of Claremont Road, the late Stan J.McCready, bridged the gap between the 1965 team that won the League to the 1984 Cup Winners, as the new brigade of Lewis, Dunlop, Garth, Masterson, Burns, Davis and Bailey took over the reigns.
Both his sons Martin and Jonathan of course followed in his steps playing for the 1st team with considerable success.

John Dudley Ridgeway was a generous, loyal and kind man.
Ridge was always great company to be with, always put a smile on your face and supported the Club in so many ways.
Ridge will be sorely missed and is and will always be a YM Legend.

Our thoughts are with all his family and many friends at this very sad time.
RIP Ridge...
