The Death Of The Great Dermot Monteith...

06 Dec 2009

One of Ireland's greatest ever cricketers Dermott Monteith has died suddenly at the age of 66.
He was also a former President of the Irish Cricket Union and a national selector.
He took a record 326 wickets for Ireland in 76 games between 1965 and 1984.

On a Irish U23 tour to Scotland in which 'Monty' was a selector, there were 4 YMers in the squad; Angus Dunlop(Capt), Stu Taylor, Mark Nulty and David Streek.
Dermot was a great influence, always encouraging and great fun to be around. Although not many of us would have seen him play he left a lasting impression on us all.

Dermot had many friends at YMCA and our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.
