"Simi's Thoughts", with Ger Siggins...

28 Jul 2016

WITH the cup final now barely 48 hours away, 1st XI Captain Simi Singh took time out of his busy schedule to talk to the YMCA website about his thoughts for Saturday’s Leinster Senior Cup final.

“I’m quite confident our team is strong enough. We’ve a good combination, a good balance and having Sean Terry coming back will strengthen our batting. Tom Fisher and Jack Tector up top have scored runs in the past few weeks so that’s a good sign.”

He’s happy, too, with the bowling hand he has to play in the only 60-over competition.

“Bowling wise we’re strong with the spinners we have, and the guys on the seconds are doing well so selection is tough.

“Parky [James Parkinson] is in good form, the last few weeks he’s bowled really well.”

The firsts had an excellent victory over Clontarf last Saturday on the ground where the cup final will be played.

“We played at Clontarf before and we won both our games there this season so we’re used to the conditions there”, explains Simi.

He certainly isn’t complacent about the game, which starts at 11am, against a resurgent Leinster side.

“I think Leinster will be a good challenge. Even though they’re in Division 2 we played them in the T20 and they were really good – they hammered us in that game. We won’t be taking them lightly.

“Their bowling is really strong with George Dockrell and their seamers Bilal and Tim Law are both good bowlers. Maybe we can attack their batting a bit, they may have vulnerabilities there, so we’ll be looking to push on that”.

Simi has played two Leinster Senior Cup finals for YMCA, both staged at Claremont Road. “Won one, lost one”, he recalls. Time to make it 2-1, see you Saturday.
