Match report YMCA CC V Clontarf
At Claremont Road
Division 1 League

YM won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first on a decent deck with good bounce and carry.
Reinhardt Strydom and Alan Lewis got off to a decent start before the Clontarf Captain Morrissey got Strydom to play a loose shot and he was caught at gully. The 50 was brought up in the 12th over and a large total beckoned. However leg-spinner Hokin got rid of Rob Nandi in his first over, bowling him around his legs and Delany after 2 or 3 loose overs produced 2 wickets in his 4th as first he trapped Shami lbw in his crease and then James Parkinson who chipped a soft catch to square leg. Things got even worse when Sean Mcauley called for a quick single and was easily beaten. The score now stood at 76/5. A 6th wicket partnership of 32 between Lewis who was trying his utmost to keep the innings together and Paul Beacroft (24) looked to have steadied the ship, however when he had done all the hard work Beacroft hit weakly to mid-on and gave an easy catch. The tail tried to wag as Lewis got past 50 (88 balls) but with almost 10 overs left YM were finally dismissed for a disappointing total of 162.
Lewis was superb, great concentration and application batting throughout the innnings as he finished on 73* (115 balls, 6x4s, 1x6).

Having been bowled out early YM took to the field for several overs hoping to have a quick blast at the 'Tarf batsmen before tea. And things looked bright as Parkinson dismissed Gopal very early in the innings, however Hokin was to have other ideas and launched into Strydom's 2nd over taking 19 runs from it. Clontarf went into the tea break quite content. On resumption Parky came out firing and took another 3 wickets to leave the scoreboard reading 41/4. Game on. Poynter got good support from J.Coughlan with a 5th wicket partnership of 44, but then the 2 batsmen decided, that anything YM could do they could do better, as they produced two soft dismissals and gave it away. Score:111/6. Robert Garth bowled with great pace in a short sharp spell and Rob Nandi was very tidy as he chipped away. Cusack soon found himself batting with the tail and it just never wagged as Strydom returned for a second spell picking up 2 wickets in an over as YM looked to finish the innings. Finally Parkinson held on to a catch from Cusack in the deep and YM had completed a battling and hard fought win. Parky was excellent (10-2-25-4) and Rob Nandi was equally good bowling with great control recording figures of (8.1-1-16-3). Wides continue to be a problem, 20 were bowled, but this was a crucial win for the team which should give them confidence in the games that lay ahead.
