2nds do the Double over Railway to regain top spot...
18 Sep 2011
LCU Div 4 - YMCA 2nds V Railway Union 2nds - 2 matches
The first encounter played on Sunday the 28th August in Claremont Road with near rivals Railway Union, saw YM recover from 62/4 to post a decent target of 192.
Sean Mcauley
44 from 62 balls (7x4s),
D.M.Streek
57 from 74 balls (9x4s) putting on 99 runs for the 5th wicket. The visitors in reply collapsed amazingly from 66/2 to 69 all out in under 15 overs out to give YM a victory by 123 runs. YM bowlers
Umar Jehangir
(3-1-9-5, inc. a hat-trick) and
Yaqoob Ali
(1.4-0-2-3) were on fire in this match.
The re-match between the same sides took place on Sunday 18th of September also at Claremont Road as the visitors gave up home advantage in this re-fix.
Again batting first YM struggled early on, 7/3 after 7 overs with Railway clearly on top. However goundhog day set in, as first
Sean Mcauley
34 from 38 balls (5x4s, 1x6) and then
Jack Tector
62 from 87 balls (7x4s) followed by a cameo from
Yaqoob Ali
28 from 26 balls (2x4s) saw the home side once again get to a good total of 188 all out in a game reduced to 47 overs because of rain.
In reply, chasing 185 (D/L), Railway also lost early wickets 15/2 and with
James Smith
(7-2-25-3) saving his best bowling for such an important game, wickets fell regularly as all the bowlers kept up the pressure on the visitors.
Yaqoob Ali
3/35 and
Johnny Harte
2/21 once again took control, backed up by
Lee Cole
in fine form behind the sticks and Railway were finally dismissed for 138 in the 40th over.
Jack Tector
, who had done so much to give YM a competitive target, fittingly taking the last wicket to fall.
YM won by 47 runs (D/L) and replaced Railway at the top of the table.
