4th XI finish in fine style...

12 Sep 2011

Div 10 League

The 4th XI recorded two wins over the weekend (10/11th Sept) to finish their league campaign in fine fettle and the possibility of promotion.
On Saturday 10th they chased 173 against Wicklow County 3rd XI and won quite comfortably by 7 wkts. Runs from Geoff Cole (77) and Aaron Bailey (55*) with a 3rd wicket partnership of 88 saw them home. The Wicklow total was never going to be enough after good bowling from all. John Orr bowled very well at the death with figures of 4-0-19-2.
Then on Sunday 11th they visited picturesque Milverton to take on The Hills 4ths. Batting first YM scored 226/5 form their 40 overs. This total was built around opener Ryan Bailey (93) with good contributions from Michael Kirk (26), J.Orr (32) and JJ.Cassidy (34*). Jean-Seb Charles used the batting powerplay at the end to hit 10 from 7 balls.
In reply The Hills top order was blown away by Rory Anderson who recorded figures of 8-2-21-3. Wickets fell at regular intervals and although the home sides' tail wagged they were finally dismissed for 143. John Orr once again picking up 2/13, Gary O'Neill (2/24) and Iain Styles (2/30) gave great support as YM won by 83 runs.
These two wins gave the team 10 league wins for the season and because Pembroke 5ths lost at the weekend, leap-frogged them into 2nd place and a promotion spot. Pembroke still have 1/2 games to play and could spoil the party.

The Season's Figures : Played 14, Won 10, NR 1, Lost 3

Entering a 4th XI for the first time in a number of years, the plan was to give our numerous talented youngsters the opportunity to sample senior cricket. They exceeded all expectations with a great league campaign and some wonderful individual performances.
There were 3 hundreds, Jack Tector 112, Ryan Bailey 137* and Geoff Cole 129.
Ryan Bailey was superb all season, scoring 574 league runs at an average of 57.4 (4x50s 1x100).
He was equally backed up by others who all avereged over 35.
Geoff Cole 336 runs at 42 (1x50 1x100),
Aaron Bailey 321 runs at 45.86 (3x50s),
John Orr 320 runs at 35.56 (2x50s) and
Arran Copeland 198 runs at 49.50 (1x50).
There were 3x100s and 12x50s throughout the season and some of their victories were down to the weight of runs they scored in the 1st innings of a match.

The bowling was equally good and more of a team effort, backed up by goodish fielding (there were probably too many catches put down in all games).
David Cooke took 16 wkts at 3.69, John Orr 11 at 18.09 and
Ryan Bailey 11 at 22.27.
Special mention to of Kai Jameson 8 wkts at 9.75 (inc. a hat-trick), left-arm seamer Gary O'Neill 8 at 11.75, Iain Styles, (left-arm spinner) 9 at 13.11 and Arran Copeland 9 at 26.33.
The top catchers were Arran Copeland and the Captain Vinod Sharma, who led the side admirably with 5 each.

On the 31st of July the team were beaten by Wicklow County in Wicklow by 3 wkts. They then proceeded to win 6 league games in a row to end a fantastic season and with a little bit of luck...promotion.
