Y.M.C.A. C.C. (Dublin) team
2nd XI
Captain :
David M. Streek
RHB, RAFM;
All rounder who played for both Scotland and Ireland at Youth level. 1st white man to play for the Soweto C.C.
Former clubs include Phoenix C.C., Poloc C.C.(Glasgow), Florida Leases C.C.(J.Burg), Soweto Pioneers C.C. (J'Burg) and Ardmore C.C. player.
Educated at The Hospital & Free School of King Charles II (K.H.) and Merchiston Castle School for Boys, Edinburgh.
World Travelling Companion of 'the run-machine', Hunter, Explorer, Mercenary Soldier of Fortune, Storyteller, Collector of fine art and miniature soldiers.
Passion: 'The Jam Tarts' Hearts of Midlothian F.C.
Vice Captain :
Neel Bhandari
RHB, LB;
Athletic fielder.
Impressed in the title winning YMCA 2nds of 2000 who won the Leinster Senior 3 League and is vital in the push for promotion as the 2nd XI aim for promotion this year and the next and the next...stop the press, he is getting married during the summer...another player lost
Players
Rory Anderson
RHB, RAM;
Rory attends St.Andrew's College in Booterstown and has been one of the success stories of the YMCA youth development programme.
A steady opening bowler who bowls in that 'corridor of uncertainty' he will only get better and better. His batting improved during this season (2008) and once he gets stronger he can kick on and aim for a 1st team spot in the near future.
James Fitzgerald
WK, RHB, 12TH MAN FOR IRELAND;
James currently resides in Dubai, working for the ICC as Spokesman, Media & Communications Manager etc etc etc.
This former cricket correspondent of The Irish TImes & The Kildare News returned home this season(2008) to help out the 2nd & 3rd teams but alas did not really trouble the scorers.
Is quite easily the biggest name dropper in YM history as names like 'Proc'(Mike Proctor), 'Big Clive'(Clive Lloyd), and 'Broady' (Chris Broad) slip out of his mouth as easily as the ball slips out of his hands in the field.
He is also a IRB Rugby referee no less.
YM Legend!
Padraic Flanagan
Dale McDonough-Kincaid
Davíd Meade
RHB, RAO;
David played little cricket this summer (2008) so it is hard to make a judgement. He is a more than capable batsmen & bowler who will see great improvement from a full season under his belt. Fine fielder.
Kamal Merchant
RHB, RAM;
Born in Karachi, Pakistan, Kamal is in his second stint with the YMers.
Played almost 100 first class games for Karachi Whites, United Bank Ltd, Karachi Blues and Faisalabad, where he averaged 27.10 with the bat and an impressive 23.80 with the ball in his hand. His one day bowling average is even better at 20.94.
Having previously appeared as the club professional during the late 1990s he is now back as 'Head of Youth Coaching', while turning out for the 2nd XI.
Also currently coaches and umpires 1st class cricket matches in his native Pakistan.
Chris P. Minch
RHB;
Another of our St.Andrews Secondary School pupils in the 2nd team. Tall elegant top order batsman who has yet to fulfill his undoubted ability and promise.
Much expected this season. Has to turn more 30s into 50s and more...
Fields like Steve Harmison.
Shahin Nikroo
Niall J. Noonan
RHB;
Niall is a top order bat and has improved considerably this season(2008). Looks the part, solid, calm under pressure with all the shots. Has very good hands and has taken some excellent catches.
Needs to confirm this seasons improvement in 2009 and has the ability to go all the way to the 1st XI.
Attends The High School, Danum.
Prashant Pannu
Matthew Quirke
Adam D. Rice
RHB, RAM;
Tall strong opening bowler, Adam is a new recruit to the club this season and made his debut against The Hills C.C. in the first game of 2008.
Early days so we don't know a lot about him apart from the fact that he is related to former captain of both Northern Ireland & Arsenal, full-back Pat Rice, now assistant coach sitting next to Arsene Wenger. Come on the Gunners!
Also know to throw the Javelin in his spare time!
Tim Shannon
RHB, LAM;
Young Aussie in his first year with YM. All rounder who can help the seconds win Middle B this year. Like all southern hemisphere players likes a chirp!
John Souter
RHB;
A native of South Africa, John joins YM from near-rivals Merrion C.C.
Tall elegant batsman, will be a great addition for the 2nd XI as they look to build on last seasons achievements.
Niall Tynan
RHB,
Niall recently joined YM from near-rivals Railway Union and is a top order bat.
More to follow as soon as we get to know him better...
Johan Van De Flier
RHB, RAM;
Johan is a tall talented forceful top order batsman and meanacing bowler who attends Wesley College.
Needs to turn 30s & 40s into big 50s or 100s. Has the ability, needs to be patient and 'fill his boots'.
2009 is a big season for him.
Josh D. Van De Flier
RHB, RAM;
Josh, younger brother of Johan also attends Wesley College. Only 15 years of age is a genuine all-rounder. Bowls a great line and length, gutsy batsmen and athletic fielder. Definitely one to watch and can be a top senior cricketer if he wants to be.
