Match report YMCA 2nd XI v North Kildare 1st XI
At The Maws, Kilcock
Senior 3 League

This was the 2nd of back-to-back fixtures with North Kildare, this time on their home patch.
On arrival and only after we had asked the question,we were told we would be playing on their artificial pitch. No grass wicket had been prepared due to the wet weather!! Not good enough.
Losing the toss was to be crucial as the home side had no hesitation in making us bat on a wicket that was sub-standard, with little bounce.
However, we did not get to grips quickly enough with the condition of the pitch and the top order either played too many false shots through poor shot selection or were defeated by the low bounce.
At 29/5 things looked bleak, North Kildare put the ball in the right place and wickets fell. A 6th wkt partnership of 55 between Chris Minch,who batted with great patience before a drinks break and Streek got the team back on track and with lots of overs left a score of 120 would have been good. However, at 84/6 the tail definitely did not wag and with little contribution we were dismissed for 95 from 31 overs.
Very disappointing all round.
North Kildare then had a tricky period to bat before tea was taken and we got the start we so badly needed. Shami,who bowled very well at the top of the innings (10-4-19-1) bowled the opener Holland and then Josh Van De Flier ran out Neavyn, from square-leg, who was far to slow to respond to his skippers call. 2/2 game on.
Before and after tea the North Kildare captain Phipps and Walsh played very carefully and took the score to 60/2.
The introduction of Josh Van De Flier (10-1-34-4) and Ross Johnson (7-4-8-1) was to turn the game around in our favour as the home side collapsed to 66/7 and from here on YM really should have won the game. These 2 players bowled very well.
What was needed was for Umar Jehangir, our strike bowler, to come back for his last few overs and bowl quick and straight, this never happened as the North Kildare tail dug in and played well enough with a 7th wkt partnership of 24 which turned the game back in their favour. At 90/7 we took 1 more wicket but alas not enough as North Kildare ran out winners by 2 wkts.

Not great quality but an exciting finish that just didn't go our way, the pitch wasn't great but the toss was vital in the end.
However YM in the 2 games against this opposition did not play well enough in both facets of their game.
In the home fixture, we batted well enough to get us back in the game but bowled poorly.
In this return game we batted poorly, (even though the wicket was bad) but our bowlers very nearly got us out of jail.
