On another sun-drenched day in Sandymount YM took on Leinster who won the toss and batted first and ran out winners by 68 runs.

With a hard flat track the visitors opening pair of George (Dockrell) 87 & (Dave) Lucas 116 were a galaxy apart against a young (despite the efforts from the ever-youthful Kamal Merchant 2/34) and in-experienced bowling attack.
Their opening partnership of 197 was to be crucial in their victory.
YM tried in vain to break this partnership but apart from a couple of close lbw's they never gave a chance.
At 197/1 Leinster should have kicked on to score more heavily but to their credit the YMers stopped the flow of runs to a degree. Rory Anderson came back well in his 2nd spell and Tim Shannon bowled with a big heart at the death.
The final score of 268/4 could have been so much more.

In reply YM suffered a fatal set-back when Graeme McCoy was out to the 3rd ball of the innings. Carl Hosford (23) and John Souter (24) worked hard to repair the early damage but after both were dismissed the score limped onto 69/5.
Streek (50) & Merchant (23) put on 67 for the 6th wicket as they began a fight back and Tim Shannon (28*) & Prashant Pannu (22) took the attack to the visitors putting on 55 for the 8th wicket.
But in the end it was just simply not enough as Leinster won out easy winners and take their place in the 2nd Rd.
