YM Debut: Umar Jehangir

'First win of the season, job done, still early days and room for improvement'.

With the toss won YM chose to bat first and raced to 48/1 in the 6th over. Graeme McCoy making a rapid 21. But then wickets tumbled and at 58/5 it looked like a repeat of last weeks batting display against The Hills. The fact that they totalled 135 was due to Paul Beacroft who recorded the teams first 50 of the season (6x4s, 2x6s) in a fine innings. The tail did not wag.
A disappointing aspect was that this team do not adhere to the old adage 'bat your overs out' as only 31 were faced.
In reply Merrion's batting was not much better. D.Poder batted well at the top of the innings but they have a long tail and looked a poor team. In defending a low total these YMers, if nothing else are fighters, particularly the bowlers who chipped away making their opponents fight all the way. Adam Rice impressed taking 3/21 and the captain cleaned up the tail finishing with 3/23.
The YM ground fielding & catching (they dropped as many as they caught) was not of the highest quality and for the second week running extras were high (16 wides/no-balls) giving 2 extra overs. But a 'win is a win' and this will give confidence as they take on Railway Union C.C. next week and the possibility of going further in this competition.

One note to YM members/supporters, there were approx. 40 people watching the game today, I know not a lot, but of those attending only 6 were from YM.
As Delia Smith is fond of saying "Where are you!, Lets be 'aving you!"...
