PARKY made an excellent return to the YMCA colours in North County on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to stop the 1st XI slipping to defeat on day one of the season.
It’s almost five years since the once-powerful County beat YMCA, a nine-match run which new skipper Simi Singh was keen to extend.
On a cold day at Inch, YM got off to a great start through Tom Fisher (52), Jack Tector (12) and Simi (27), seeing the score to 94-1 after 18 overs.
But County’s ex-Ireland U19 spinner Adam Coughlan made the breakthrough, Terry Richardson had debutant Seán Terry caught, and then Fish fell, again to Coughlan, and YM were 106-4.
Yogesh (13), Sam Murphy (52no) and James Parkinson (31) patched things up however but the total of 223-7 looked a little light.
Parky struck in the first over, but County put together three solid partnerships of 52, 56 and 40 to leave them on 149-4 off 29 overs.
Despite Parky taking 4-52, and a typically economical spell by Yaqoob Ali (1-28 off 9), County’s Ireland all-rounder Eddie Richardson played a measured innings of 46no to see them home with more than four overs to spare.
The firsts are next in action next Saturday when they take on North Down in the Irish Senior Cup first round.
