The 3rd XI got their first win of the season with a great fight back when it looked like the game was lost.
Batting first they got off to a flier as Chris Minch 32 (3x4s, 1x6), Niall Noonan 41 (2x4s, 1x6) put on 42 in the first 5 overs. After 10 overs the score stood at 67/1 and a total of 150 looked on the cards. However Pembroke fought back and runs were hard to come by and although Matthew Quirke 25* (1x4, 1x6) finished the innings with a straight six over mid off the final total of 125/8 was a little disappointing.
In the Pembroke innngs the batsmen found the opening 10 overs bowled by David Cooke 5-0-29-4 and James Smith 5-0-16-0 difficult to push the score along. Only the evergreen Ed Dwyer with 23 came to grips with the YM attack as the score after 12 overs was 59/5. But Cunningham (38) and Khan (33) had other ideas and together scored 59 for the 6th wicket in 6 overs. The score rattled along to 118/5 and the game seemed up.
But up stepped Chris Minch and with the backing of the YM fielders the 'fight-back-of-all-fightbacks'. First Minchy combined with Ryan Hohn, who took a good catch in the deep to get rid of Khan, then a run out and then Minchy took a catch at long mid-off to get rid of Cunningham as Hugh Anderson bowled a tight line.
The last over 121/8, 5 runs needed 2 wickets left.
1st ball - dot
2nd ball - dot, pressure building...
3rd ball - wicket! Ryan Bailey takes a smart stumping off that man Minch
4th ball - dot
5th ball - dot, still 5 to win...
6th ball - hit to the deep mid-wicket boundary and although they run 2 a run out is produced as they go for a 3rd run.
The last 5 wickets had fallen for 5 runs and YM had won by 2 runs.
