Match report YMCA 2nd XI v Phoenix 2nd XI

Leinster Division 4 League

Bat first, build partnerships at the top of the order, keeping wickets in hand and bat your overs. Bowl to your field, not too full or wide, bowl at the stumps particularly top of off and hold your catches.
This is what Phoenix did and this is why they beat YM 2nds again for the second time in The Phoenix Park this season and it had an all too familiar feeling too it.

4 of the top 5 Phoenix bats got into decent double figures on a slowish pitch.
YM tried hard with the ball but did not make the neccessary inroads. The home team put on 48 for the first wicket with very little difficulty and a 3rd wicket partnership of 84 consolidated their position. S.Neill then batted sensibly with the tail, punishing any loose deliveries to finish on 50* as Phoenix totalled 210/8 from their 50 overs.
Neel Bhandari (10-0-29-2) and Shami (8-3-30-2) bowled reasonable well. James Smith was very good bowling at the death (5-0-28-2).
The fielding was average, some catches taken, some dropped.
However, it could have been worse and YM did claw it back a little.

In reply it started quite well as Streek (28) and Dale McDonough-Kincaid (14) put on 33 for the 1st wicket in 7 overs. Both were out to poor shots. Shami & Stevie Walsh, again to poor shots, didn't last long and the scoreboard read 75/4 in 16 overs.
Sean Mcauley and James Fitzgerald tried hard to build a partnership but Fitz got a shocking decision, but you make your own luck. And it was now 95/6 in 25 overs.
The next 5 overs never got any better as the last 4 wickets fell for only 5 runs. Only Mcauley (32) showed any application and concentration.
Once again YM didn't get close to batting 50 overs, didn't even make it difficult for the opposition and the way the wickets fell was very disappointing. Yes the Phoenix bowlers bowled well but apart from James Fitzgerald's dismissal it was all too easy for the home side.

For YM the Penny will someday drop but when who knows. Hopefully when it is not too late.
It was a very bad day.
