Match report YMCA 2nd XI v Merrion 2nd XI

This match, as it turned out, was played on a spicy green pitch, with a lot of bounce and both sides struggled to bat on this surface.
YM batted first and managed to get to 22 before their 1st wicket fell. Throughout the innings it was tough work for the home side. A combination of poor shots and Merrion never letting a partnership develop saw YM bowled out for only 104 in 38.1 overs. Simon Wilson-Moore (30) was the only batsman who got to grips with the wicket, playing with great patience and application to build an innings.

Because YM were bowled out well within the 50 overs, Merrion had to bat before tea. This was to be the turning point for the home side. With great pace and using the extra bounce to their advantage Umar Jehangir (3/29) and Warwick Armstrong (2/18) reduced the visitors to 22/5. The highlights of this was the keeping of Lee Cole. He was on fire behind the sticks (buoyant from his recent selection to the Irish U15 side) taking 4 catches and involved in a run out. 2 of the catches were great grabs and were easily 'Champagne Moments' of any game.
After tea YM kept up the pressure as Simon Wilson-Moore (2/21) and Shami (2/15) also bowled very well. Lee Cole added 2 more catches to finish on 6. All the bowlers were spot on as they found the right line and length.
Merrion were dismissed for 83 from 26.5 overs and YM won by 21 runs.
Just what the doctor ordered.
