This was definitely one that got away and it's official 'catches do win matches'.
Merrion won the toss and batted first and within 2 overs they must have been wishing they were still at work. Umar Jehangir and Stuart McCready reducing the home side to 8/3. However a missed catch that would have made it 8/4 was to have a huge bearing in this match. Simon Morrissey 90 (10x4s, 3x6s) with some very clean hitting and S.McGrath 53 (5x4s, 1x5) put together a 140 4th wicket partnership which set up a very large total of 182/5. The YM ground fielding was not good and the catching was not much better.
In reply YM gave it a go with solid contributions from Johnny Harte (33) and Wajih Iqbal (27) however they lost wickets at just the wrong times and the home side were always able to keep the visitors in check. Finally bowling them all out in the 19th over for 140 with a combination of good ground fielding and more importantly great catching. 7 in total. The final wicket summed up YMs evening as a fielder plucked the ball out of the air from behind his head. Great catch and a pretty good match.
