Match report YMCA 2nd XI v North Kildare 1st XI
At The Maws, Kilcock.
Leinster Division 4 League

Debuts: J.Lewis, M.Lewis, J.Smith, A.Greene

With 6 players aged U19 and 4 of those making their debuts at this level YM took to the field after winning the toss and inserting the home side on the newly laid artificial wicket.
3 early wickets were taken with Warwick Armstrong and 'Shami' restricting the top order. Thereafter a good 4th wicket partnership brought the home side back into the game. The first over after the drinks break saw James Smith get rid of their dangerman Phipps and after an ill-judged run produced another wicket YM took back control. However, the North Kildare batsman continued to play their shots, particularly Singh and with other solid contributions the home side posted a fine total of 240.
The YM bowling was on the whole good, W.Armstong (2/38) showed his experience. Rory Anderson (2/34) bowled two very good spells, the last at the death of the innings and James Smith showed promise as he bowled to their two top batsmen.
The ground fielding was good, debutants Alistair Greene & Matthew Lewis were excellent in the field, only 8 wides were bowled and the home side were dismissed within 49 overs. Josh Van de Flier thrown in at the deep end kept wicket very well with no byes recorded.

Still 240 was a pretty good score and in truth daunting. After the early loss of Van de Flier a 2nd wicket partnership of 126 in 18 overs between David Streek (46) and 'Shami' (105) saw YM take control. Shami batted beautifully dominating all the North Kildare bowlers as he hit 11x4s, 1x5 and 4x6s. The 150 was posted in the 22nd over and although Streek and Anderson departed, Shami and Johnny Harte took the score past 200 with a 30 run partnership for the 4th wicket. Shami's innings was fabulous and his shot selection was top notch. A unbeaten 5th wicket partnership between the 2 Jonathan's (teacher and pupil) Harte (24*) and Lewis (28*) put the icing on the cake as the target was reached in the 37th over, winning by 6 wickets and with 14 overs remaining. Jonathan Lewis in particular played a quick-fire cameo on his YM debut with some fine shots.
All in all a great start and with much to build on.
