The Under 11 B Team played a league match against Railway Union in Park Avenue last evening in a very tense affair and with some good cricket on show that produced a nail biting finish.
The rules of the under 11 leagues are as follows:
10 players a side
15 overs for each team
2 batsman/paired each face 3 overs
batting team starts with 100 runs
5 runs deducted for each wicket
bowlers can bowl 2/3 overs each
YM won the toss and the captain Robyn decided to bat first. YM scored a respectable 191 runs for 7 wkts (minus 35 runs) to set a target of 156.
Matthew/Eoin batted first, then Adam/Sebastian, Andrew/Josh, Simon/David and finally Robyn/Caoimhe. All pairings batted very well and confidence was high.
In reply Railway did not lose many wickets but also did not score as freely as YM.
With all under 11 games you have to complete the overs of each team no matter what the score.
The Railway score with one ball remaining was 169 for 2 wkts (minus 10 runs) so the score stood at 159.
The last ball just had to be defended and victory was Railways.
But the last batsman was bowled and YM had won by 2 runs.
Cut to Jubilation!
Scores:
YMCA 11 B - 191 for 7 = 156
Railway Union - 169 for 3 = 154
YM win by 2 runs
