Born in Johannesburg, Transvaal, South Africa, Johnny Garth represented Ireland at both Cricket (26 Caps) and Rugby Union (Irish 7's team).
Made his debut against India at Ormeau, Belfast in 1986 and in his 2nd game, the next day, he picked up the award for M-O-M against the Test nation.
After switching clubs, from Leinster C.C. to YMCA, he was a member of the all-conquering YM 1st XI during the late 1980s, early 1990s and became the leading all-rounder in Leinster & Irish cricket, with entertaining and devastating effect.
Also played Rugby for Wanderers RFC & Leinster.
